Kentucky Car Accident Attorney Mat A. Slechter Discusses Report On 2013 Highway Fatality Decline

The preliminary findings were released by the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) in an NBC 18 report (“Kentucky Highway Fatalities Decline In 2013”) on January 8. According to the NBC 18 report, statistics indicate that highway traffic fatalities fell from 746 in 2012 to 635 in 2013, representing the lowest total since 1949.

According to the NBC 18 article, officials from the Governor’s Executive Committee on Highway Safety – comprised of officials from Kentucky State Police, the KOHS, and numerous federal and local highway agencies – reported 75 fatality-free days on Kentucky roads in 2013 as part of their “Toward Zero Deaths” public awareness campaign.
KOHS officials told NBC 18 that they plan to further promote seat belt usage and raise awareness over the dangers of drunk and distracted driving in 2014. Furthermore, NBC 18 said that the organization plans on bolstering efforts involving pedestrian and motorcycle safety, mature drivers, and booster seat safety.
