Kentucky Drowning Accident Lawyer Mat A. Slechter Comments On Fatal Drowning Accident Involving Man Electrocuted In Lake Cumberland
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- A 34-year-old Laurel County, Kentucky man died recently in an electrocution accident while swimming in Lake Cumberland, which serves as a reminder that people should take safety seriously while in and around water this summer, according to attorney Mat A. Slechter, a personal injury lawyer in Louisville, Kentucky.
“Drowning accidents happen fast,” Slechter said July 2. “This particular accident also reminds us just how dangerous electrocution accidents can be. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the man who died in this tragic accident. We have dealt with many wrongful death cases at the Slechter Law Firm, and we know how disturbing they can be for everyone involved. That’s why we work so hard for grieving families. We know what’s at stake. We understand the importance of every case.”
The man died June 30 when he was fatally shocked while swimming in Lake Cumberland, Kentucky, according to WHAS 11 News (“Swimmer dies after being electrically shocked,” July 1, 2013). According to Pulaski County Deputy Coroner Danny Karriker, the swimmer was electrocuted when he grabbed hold of an aluminum ladder on a dock, which was touching a frayed electrical cord, WHAS 11 News reported.
Slechter said people heading out to lakes or pools for swimming should understand the risks. “Electricity and water are a deadly combination,” Slechter said. “Make sure to keep electrical appliances and cords away from the swimming area, whether it’s a pool or a lake. If you own the property, you could be liable if someone is injured or killed. Drowning accidents are something every family needs to be vigilant about as we enter the height of summer.
“It’s easy to forget just how dangerous lakes and swimming pools can be,” Slechter added. “Many strong swimmers might forget that it only takes one small mistake for them or a loved one to drown. It’s wise to not drink alcohol or use alcohol moderately when swimming. Don’t go swimming alone. If you get into trouble, you will need someone to help you.”
