Khora Allows Anyone to 3D Print Their Favorite Images
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- Khora Image, a Los Angeles based 3D printing startup, revealed the world’s first platform that makes it possible for anyone to turn their favorite image into three dimensional pieces of art. Khora’s software and printers--first released via a Kickstarter campaign--allows fans to upload images of any size, enlarge and manipulate the image, and then feed it into a fabrication process, ending with a unique and amazing piece of 3-dimensional art made of recycled materials.
“People have an innate desire to turn moments into art, whether it be the cave paintings of Lascaux, Leonardo Da Vinci's depiction of the Last Supper, or Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe. We’ve created a way take the images that capture those moments and bring them physically to life--for your walls, your desk, as gifts, or as art,” Khora founder and CEO Jacques Perrault said.
This proprietary software first analyzes the uploaded image’s pixels depth and breadth. The user can then change the color, size, design, and personality of the piece to their liking. Once purchased, the file is sent to production, fed into a robotic carving arm, which engraves the design into a sustainable recycled material, revealing the final piece of art. The same process which has been applied to create installations for homes, resorts and businesses all around the world.
Supporters can order their own custom Khora through Kickstarter starting at $15. The company is crowdfunding a raise of $30,000 to fund the final development phase of their software to make Khora a full-fledged business.
