Kiaro! D Label Printer Meets BS5609 Certification for GHS Labels
West Warwick, RI (PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- QuickLabel Systems, an Astro-Med, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALOT) business unit, has announced that its new Kiaro! D label printer has been certified to print color labels that pass the BS5609 standard for GHS labels.
BS5609 is the internationally recognized British Standard for pressure-sensitive adhesive labels used for marine applications. Referred to as the Marine Immersion Label Testing Standard, chemical manufacturers must comply with this standard when their labels are used on hazardous chemical containers transported by sea, according to the GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification) labeling standard.
BS5609 certification establishes whether or not labels remain adhered and readable on containers and barrels after prolonged exposure to the ocean environment, including UV light exposure, seawater submersion and sand abrasion.
Elements of required GHS label content, including red and black GHS pictograms, hazard statements, and health warnings, all must remain identifiable on the label for a three month period with slight or no color change or print removal in order to pass BS5609 testing.
“We are confident that our Kiaro! D label printer and our BS5609 certified labels and inks comprise the most durable, reliable, and easy-to-use GHS label printing solution on the market,” said Eric E. Pizzuti, Vice President and General Manager of QuickLabel Systems.
“Chemical producers who need to print black and red GHS labels for bottles and cartons will be pleased to know that they can also print their front-panel primary display labels in full-color using the Kiaro! D, which boasts excellent print quality and 1200 dpi resolution,” Pizzuti continued.
The Kiaro! D pigment-based ink and three QuickLabel materials, including material type #183 passed each BS5609:1986 Section 3 regulation.
According to QuickLabel Systems, Material #183 is ideal for producing labels that must survive harsh environments which might expose them to chemical solvents, UV light, moisture, and abrasion. This label material with permanent adhesive adheres well to a wide variety of substrates, and also complies with FDA 175.105 (which covers incidental contact between food and adhesive, also known as seam contact).
Available in three different models that all print using durable pigment ink, the Kiaro! D family of color label printers is designed to suit any labeling application in which the labels are subject to harsh environments in shipping, storage, and point of use. The Kiaro! D family of label printers make labels that get dirty, wet, scuffed, and exposed to sunlight and chemicals - all while maintaining legibility and color fastness without lamination.
