Kickstarter Campaign for Smart, Proactive Dog Collar that Helps Detect Illness Launches
California (PRWEB) October 10, 2017 -- Today, a Kickstarter campaign launched for Waggit, a comprehensive smart dog collar that uses technology to improve and even extend the life of a pet, by making early detection of health issues possible. The collar learns a dog’s baseline, then tracks and alerts owners to changes in vitals, body position, and sleep quality - all signs of pain, illness, injury, or poison. Early bird pricing for the crowdfunding campaign starts at $169 for Waggit and a 6 month subscription (retail value $279).
Most pet parents would agree - they want to do everything in their power to ensure their dog is happy, healthy and safe. But dogs can’t say when something is wrong, and they’ve evolved as pack animals to hide pain. By the time symptoms present themselves and disease or illness is detected, a dog may have suffered, late-stage treatment can cause soaring vet bills, and often, it can be too late.
“Detecting health issues early in dogs is super rare. At the same time, diseases like cancer, kidney disease, heart disease, epilepsy, and arthritis are on the rise in dogs,” said co-founder and CEO Susan Sierota. “My dog Dylan is a part of the family, so I know first-hand how important it is to be able to provide the best care for our fur babies. This is why we are so excited to have developed Waggit - it is the only smart collar that makes monitoring the health and well being of your fur baby as easy as loving him.”
Waggit continuously tracks a dog’s resting vitals, body positions, sleep quality, activity and nutrition and compares the data to its own baseline. When there are significant changes in the above health indicators, the pet parent is alerted and can send a report to their vet to discuss best next steps. For example, a dog who is no longer sleeping on his left side, or not sleeping as well as normal, could be doing so because of discomfort caused by an underlying health problem. And lethargy or significantly decreased activity, along with an increase in resting respiration rate or heart rate can also be indicators of potential health issues.
The collar is also equipped with nutrition and activity monitoring, built-in GPS, and the option to set up a virtual fence that indicates to both the dog and pet parent when the dog has left a designated area. Because heat stroke is a leading cause of death in dogs, Waggit includes an ambient temperature sensor that gauges and monitors a pet’s environment and lets you know if your dog needs to be moved to a cooler area. Three ultrasound speakers emit multiple sounds from the collar to also assist with training.
Alerts are managed via an easy to use mobile app that also connects users with other dog owners, allows for setting activity and nutritional goals, and creates health reports that are shareable with a vet. Here, you can keep track of activity, view stats on leaderboards, and celebrate daily goal achievements with your pooch.
“Having lost my last pup way too early, I’d do anything to keep my fur babies Moose and Teddy as healthy as possible for as long as possible, which is why having a collar that gives actionable insights into every area of your dog’s life is so important,” said co-founder and CMO Carrie Dolan. “It provides peace of mind to pet parents, and gives dogs an improved quality of life with fast, accurate, and reliable health tracking.”
