Kids II® Expands Pink Power Mom™ Program to Five More States
(PRWEB) December 19, 2013 -- Kids II ® has expanded their Pink Power Mom Program to honor moms from new states including: Hawaii, Kentucky, Nebraska, Illinois and New Jersey. These moms were chosen from hundreds of nationwide submissions to honor eight breast cancer survivors. Pink Power Moms are role models to their families and communities, and Kids II celebrates their stories.
“It’s always an honor to recognize Pink Power Moms and all they have done to help others affected by breast cancer. We’re thrilled to be able to expand our outreach with moms in states we’ve never been in,” said Tara King, the Director of Corporate Communications for Kids II.
Vanderla Akaka is from Kapolei, Hawaii. After getting a breast cancer diagnosis, the Chief Warrant Officer in the Navy joined a Jazzercise Group that helped fund the American Cancer Society. She also worked with other breast cancer patients while in service to this country.
Amberly Wagner-Connolly, from Omaha, Nebraska, started a grassroots service project known as, Survivors Raising Kids, that helped parents who struggle during cancer treatments while caring for young children. She also played an active role in a nationwide camp, Camp Kesem that provides a retreat for children with parents suffering from cancer.
Jodi Inverso was a premier fundraiser and social chair for many cancer-related events in New Jersey, including the Young Survivor Coalition and the Breast Cancer Resource Center.
Lara MacGregor from Kentucky created a non-profit organization, Hope Scares that partnered with women facing cancer to share scarves and stories of hope. Hope Scares has touched patients in more than thirty-five states across the country.
Jen Smith from Champaign, Illinois worked closely with Imerman Angels and the Young Survivor Coalition by mentoring young women and serving as a resource to patients in her local community. Jen is the first Pink Power Mom to have lost her battle, but her legacy of compassion, outreach, strength and perseverance will be remembered forever.
The additional three 2013 Pink Power moms were Molly MacDonald from Michigan, Amy Matthews from North Carolina and Jenifer Lloyd from Maine.
Through the Pink Power Mom program, Kids II honors and awards eight winners with a $5,000 donation to the breast cancer charity of choice, plus special pampering gifts and a weekend retreat in Atlanta. The 56 Pink Power Moms including the Pink Power Mom Executive Director, Heidi Floyd, have transformed the program into a first-respondent network for patients and their families around the world.
Pink Power Moms™ nominate themselves or are nominated by members of their family and community. Nominees are mothers who have persevered through a battle with breast cancer and embrace their fellow survivors through advocacy.
