Kids Rock Cancer Announces Spring Benefit Concert
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) April 24, 2015 -- Kids Rock Cancer invites you to the All You Need Is Love! benefit concert celebrating good music and a great cause. Proceeds from this May 21 event, taking place at The Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis’s Grand Center, will support Kids Rock Cancer, Maryville University’s innovative music therapy program.
Flaming Pie, St. Louis’s premier British Invasion cover band, will headline the concert, with guest artists including members of the St. Louis Symphony and other musical surprises. The concert will also feature original music performed by children who have taken part in the Kids Rock Cancer program.
“This is such a fun night, for us and for the concertgoers,” said Liz Haynes, Maryville’s director of special programs. “Getting to hear our kids perform the songs they’ve worked so hard on — it’s a special treat for sure.”
Kids Rock Cancer uses the proven healing power of music therapy to help children successfully cope with the unique set of emotional challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis, whether their own, or that of a loved one. Since 2009, the program has helped more than 500 young children at St. Louis cancer treatment and support centers find a vehicle for self-expression and a distraction from physical and emotional pain.
The program, offered at no cost to children and their families, helps children write and sing songs about all they are feeling. Music therapists travel to a variety of clinical settings and use a mobile recording studio in order to accommodate each child’s individual needs.
“Kids Rock Cancer has been truly magical for so many families facing an unimaginable situation,” Haynes said. “Our participants routinely report a renewed sense of self-esteem, and a return of joy and optimism when it comes to their future.”
Haynes continued, “In the grand scheme of things, what we can offer seems small. But to these patients, the impact can be huge. We’re so happy to have such great community support that allows us to extend this program to as many families as possible.”
Attendees are also invited to participate in a fundraising raffle, through which one lucky winner will receive an 18-karat white gold diamond bracelet, valued at $11,500, courtesy of Simons Jewelers. All other raffle participants will receive a $50 gift certificate towards a jewelry purchase at Simons. Raffle tickets may be purchased before or during the event; 100 tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
VIP Rock Star tickets offer access to the pre- and post-event cocktail receptions and reserved seating for the concert. Receptions include heavy appetizers, desserts, open bar and meet-and-greet with the performers. Complimentary valet parking will be available.
General and Maryville University student tickets are now available through MetroTix.com. VIP tickets – which are partially tax deductible – may be purchased directly through the Kids Rock Cancer website, kidsrockcancer.org.
