Kissimmee Utility Authority Wins Six PR Awards
Kissimmee, FL (PRWEB) April 19, 2014 -- Kissimmee Utility Authority won six awards on April 16 at the 2014 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Dick Pope/Polk County Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. The winners were announced at a ceremony held at the Cleveland Heights Golf & Country Club in Lakeland.
The Image Awards competition recognizes companies and organizations that exhibit and employ comprehensive public relations projects that meet the highest standards of excellence in four components of PR programming: research, planning, execution, and evaluation.
KUA earned one of the competition's biggest honors – a Grand Image Award – as well as two Image Awards, two Awards of Distinction, and one Judges' Award. Only two Grand Image Awards were handed out in this year’s competition.
An Image Award is presented to the top-scoring entry in each category. An Award of Distinction is presented to an entry that meets the standard of excellence set by a panel of judges. A Judges' Award is presented to an entry that achieves maximum results while using a minimum amount of money. Image Award winners in each division are automatically considered for a Grand Image Award, representing the finest examples of public relations programming.
In the community relations category, KUA received an Image Award for its development and grand opening of the KUA Cumbie Canine Court, a community dog park honoring former utility chairman Fred Cumbie.
In the public service category, KUA received an Award of Distinction for its 2013 electrical safety calendar contest which drew more than 2,000 student entries from 28 Osceola County schools.
In the crisis communications category, KUA received an Award of Distinction for its 2013 hurricane preparedness campaign, which included distribution of 65,000 printed hurricane handbooks, a safety campaign, and participation in a storm preparedness expo.
In the printed tools category, the utility received a Grand Image Award, an Image Award, and a Judges’ Award for its news release announcing the election of Reginald Hardee as the utility’s first African-American chairman.
KUA has earned 272 local, state, national, and international communication awards for public relations programs, special events, community relations, and publications since 1995.
Founded in 1901, KUA (http://www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility powering 64,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
