Kolbe Corp CEO Says Deeper Understanding of Instinctive Strength Will Lead to Improved Defense Systems
Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) February 09, 2015 -- U.S. military defense systems will be significantly improved as designers gain a deeper understanding of how individuals use their instinctive strengths to accomplish tasks, according to one of the key presenters at the National Defense Industrial Association Human Systems Conference in Alexandria, Va., tomorrow and Wednesday.
David Kolbe, CEO of Kolbe Corp and a leader in the development of solutions for assessing instinctive talent, will speak on the distinct roles played by the cognitive, affective, and conative (“volitional”) aspects of the mind.
For most of the past century, researchers focused on understanding and quantifying the cognitive and affective aspects of the mind, and relatively little attention was paid to understanding the conative aspect, which is how an individual solves problems when given the freedom to act instinctively. Kolbe Corp has been the leader in research on conation for more than three decades.
Discussions within the Air Force Research Laboratory Logistics Readiness Branch have identified conation as an area of research that could help the military to move beyond the limitations of the exclusive study of cognition.
“We’re excited to have this opportunity to speak before the NDIA conference. Our extensive research on instinctive strengths and our expertise in applying what we’ve learned to real-world problems are of great value to military and civilian organizations,” Kolbe said. “A deeper understanding of conation will improve the design of defense systems and enhance the effectiveness of the members of our military as they fulfill their missions.”
Kolbe co-developed the original algorithm for the Kolbe A™ Index. This assessment measures an individual’s instinctive way of doing things. It is the only validated assessment that measures a person's conative strengths. Research on the Kolbe A indicates no significant differences in outcome by age, race, gender or physical handicap.
Kolbe’s involvement in the design and development of the Kolbe Theory gives him great insight into all uses of this valuable assessment, including recruitment, organizational development, and team building.
Earlier in his career, Kolbe worked on Capitol Hill as legislative director for a Texas congressman and as an associate with the law firm of Gammage & Burnham in Arizona. He earned his Law Degree from Arizona State University and Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.
