Korto Momolu to Unveil the “Urban Coup” Collection at New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014; Presented by SheaMoisture – February 7th (HelenMills)
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 31, 2014 -- New York City, the world’s metropolis of signature style, assembles bi-annually the most present and influential designers across the globe to introduce their latest collections at exclusive invite fashion shows. Fashion Designer extraordinaire Korto Momolu, included in these elite ranks, already has fashion industry insiders anxiously awaiting the seasonal blowout from this immense talent.
On Friday, February 7, 2014, the Liberian native and Project Runway All-star will introduce her collection, “Urban Coup”, to the fashion world at Helen Mills (137 West 26th Street). Sophisticated and military-inspired, “Urban Coup” pays tribute to the increasing strength and precision of women’s wear in the fashion industry. And taking it a step further, Korto Momolu has curbed the traditional approach to military chic to present a parade of fresh cuts and silhouettes to compliment the modern woman’s lifestyle.
SheaMoisture will serve as Korto Momolu’s title sponsor and the official hair and makeup design team. First manufactured in the U.S. in 1992, SheaMoisture is a pioneer in the use of Shea butter as a primary beauty care ingredient in the U.S. The brand is available at mass market retailers throughout the United States, and is committed to making the highest quality natural skin care products possible, engaging in eco-friendly and cruelty-free business practices, and supporting local communities and fair trade around the world. Reflecting on the partnership, Designer Korto stated, “I can’t think of a more appropriate brand to help bring about my vision for the fall/winter 2014 collection. SheaMoisture celebration of community and culture and dedication to global beauty and wellness inspires me tremendously as an artist, woman and Liberian, and I am honored to have their continued support.
To further advance the designer’s vision, ZAAF™, a collection of handcrafted luxury leather handbags and accessories produced by artisans in Ethiopia, will be featured with Korto Momolu’s "Urban Coup”, along with selected footwear pieces from White Mountain Shoes. “It’s important to align our brand (Korto Momolu) with companies that care about society, the environment and have a global mindset, because it matters to us personally and professionally,” states Leonard DeShield, Jr., Brand Manager. “We’re also very excited to have companies like Hotel Belleclaire (Luxury Hotel Sponsor), Eonis Media (Multimedia), Champion Eye Media (Photography) and others along on this journey.”
In addition to preparations for her new unveiling, Korto Momolu recently launched a crowdfunding platform (http://www.gofundme.com/kortomomolu) as a means to grow her brand and business via a traditional grassroots method allowing her supporters to play a direct role in investing in her small business.
As the Korto Momolu brand expands, so do her accomplishments and opportunities that include: designing for Miss Universe (Leila Lopes); creating an accessory line for Dillard's Incorporated department stores; producing an eco-friendly jewelry line for the National Smithsonian stores; designing the uniforms for the Walton Family Museum (Crystal Bridges); serving as the Cheerios’ ambassador for the Shoprite Partners in Caring "Knock Out Hunger" campaign; and contributing her time and talents to countless charitable and philanthropy causes. Highlighted as the one to watch by NY Magazine, Korto has been featured in many international and national publications and has appeared on numerous television shows.
