Kramer Levin’s Jeremy Cohen Receives NYSBA’s 2013 Distinguished Service Award
New York, New York (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP is pleased to announce that Jeremy A. Cohen, a senior associate in the firm’s litigation practice, has been awarded the New York State Bar Association’s “2013 Distinguished Service Award” from the Committee on Law, Youth & Citizenship.
Every year, the New York State Bar Association recognizes an attorney who has made an exceptional contribution in law-related/civic education. Cohen was recognized for his 16 years of volunteer service at Legal Outreach, Inc., a nonprofit organization that assists New York City high school students from underserved populations to develop legal skills, including persuasive writing, critical thinking and public speaking as they prepare for college and professional careers.
At Kramer Levin, Cohen’s practice encompasses all aspects of business litigation on behalf of partnerships, corporations and individuals, with a particular focus on real estate, Lanham Act (advertising and trademark) and securities/broker-dealer litigation and arbitration. In addition to this high level work, he is a member of Legal Outreach’s Advisory Board and regularly works with Legal Outreach students as a mentor, mock trial coach, and Constitutional law debate judge. In 2007, Cohen implemented a summer internship program for eight Legal Outreach sophomores at Kramer Levin and has overseen the program every summer since. The internship now involves over 40 Kramer Levin volunteers, annually. Two of Cohen’s former students are now attorneys, while many others have gone on to successful careers in business and education. Cohen received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from Columbia Law School.
“Jeremy’s commitment and devotion to young people is inspiring and representative of our firm’s long term commitment to giving back to the communities in which we work and live,” said Kramer Levin Managing Partner, Paul S. Pearlman. “We are proud to be the first major law firm to support Legal Outreach’s College to Law School Pipeline Diversity Program since its inception in 2005.”
