Kristy Callaway Re-Elected to Americans for the Arts’ Advisory Council
Washington,DC (PRWEB) January 21, 2015 -- Members of Americans for the Arts, the leading organization for advancing the arts and arts education in America, have re-elected Kristy Callaway as a member of their Arts Education Council. Callaway will advise Americans for the Arts’ staff on developing programs and services that will build a deeper connection to the field and the network membership.
In the Arts Education Council, Callaway will work with fellow arts leaders to select the Arts Education Leadership Award recipient, and participate in and support network-specific programs such as Arts in Education Week, Keep the Arts in Public Schools, and more.
Callaway has been a dedicated arts education leader for more than 15 years. Before becoming executive director of Arts Schools Network in 2008, she had been the fine arts coordinator and director of curriculum development for the 20,000-student Beaufort County, South Carolina school district. Callaway was the president of the South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education (2007-2008) and served on the South Carolina Arts Alliance board of directors for 10 years as well as The Arts in the Basic Curriculum steering committee (2005-2009) and The Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education National Leadership Committee (2009-2012).

Potential council members were nominated in early October and were voted on by members of Americans for the Arts through November 12, 2014. Callaway will serve a three-year term, from Jan. 1, 2015 to Dec. 31, 2017. She previously served on the council from 2012 through 2014.
"I'm honored to serve with arts education leaders from across the nation. In addition to contributing to the Arts Education Council, I can also share valuable resources, such a eBooks and webinars, with the Arts Schools Network's member schools," Callaway said. "Through our work on this council, we can also help local arts organizations understand the importance of their voices in arts advocacy, as well as share knowledge on how to be better advocates." She will participate in a council meeting January 21-23, 2015 in New York City.
