L.A. Oculoplastic Surgeon Dr. Mehryar Taban Discusses Latest Almond Eye Surgery Trend on “The Doctors”
Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) January 06, 2017 -- Board-certified oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Mehryar (Ray) Taban appeared on an episode of the Emmy Award-winning CBS daytime talk show The Doctors to discuss almond eye surgery, a procedure in which a patient's eye shape is surgically altered to appear more attractive. Almond eyes, or “bedroom eyes” as they are also called, essentially have a high outer corner and the eyelids sit just along the border of the iris. Some people choose to undergo this eyelid surgery in order to correct drooping lower eyelids or asymmetrical eyelids.
“Almond eye surgery is particularly popular because many people find this eye shape more attractive,” said Dr. Taban, founder of the Beverly Hills oculoplastic surgery practice Taban MD. “The almond eye surgery procedure often involves lifting the lower eyelid in addition to lateral canthoplasty where the outer corner of the eye, or the lateral canthus, is repositioned, lifted, and/or tightened to achieve the desired look. There is very little downtime and a high success rate.”
In cases where a lateral canthoplasty is not enough to create the almond eye shape, it may be necessary to perform lower eyelid retraction surgery and even a midface lift to elevate the lower eyelids while releasing any tension in the cheeks that may continue to pull the lids down. Depending on the patient's anatomy and medical history, the lateral canthoplasty may be combined with additional oculoplastic procedures.
“It's important to remember that the almond eye shape is not suitable for everyone. We always want our patients to have realistic expectations before undergoing any type of surgery, even if it might be possible to reverse the outcome,” said Dr. Taban. “For some people, almond eyes may not look attractive or natural, and for others, achieving the desired shape might require altering the overall facial structure, which is not typically recommended. We want to provide natural, flattering results using the least invasive techniques available, not only for the patients' satisfaction but also for their safety."
