Lake Ridge Academy Receives Gift Supporting Construction of a New Science and Engineering Building
North Ridgeville, Ohio (PRWEB) November 06, 2014 -- Lake Ridge Academy received a significant gift from John and Betty Kemper, which will help fund the construction of a new science and engineering building and earn its naming rights. The cornerstone of the school’s 50th Anniversary Campaign, the new building will house the K-12 Center for Scientific Exploration and Research and provide increased laboratory space.
John and Betty Kemper have a long history with Lake Ridge Academy. Their 5 children all attended the school, and both have served on the Board of Directors, for which John is a past president. Their six grandchildren who are (or soon will be) students inspired the gift. “We are proud that this building will serve as a family legacy for our longstanding love of Lake Ridge Academy that began in the school’s earliest days”, said Betty Kemper.
If remaining funds are secured in the current academic year, construction on the project could begin as early as the fall of 2015. Delivering the space as quickly as possible would help support the school’s highly regarded science program and grow enrollment.
In 2013, the school launched the Center for Scientific Exploration and Research, a K-12 academic program that delivers a STEAM curriculum to best prepare students for future careers in medicine, engineering and environmental science. The pinnacle of the Center for Scientific Exploration and Research is the Institute of Scientific Research, which accepts qualified Upper School students to conduct their own two-year research project, resulting in a formal research paper and defense to a faculty panel. Michael Shaulis, Head of Academics at Lake Ridge Academy, stated, “We are looking forward to having science and engineering laboratories that better reflect the high caliber of our existing academic program, accomplished faculty and blossoming student researchers.”
