Las Vegas Car Accident Attorney at Aaron & Paternoster Weighs in on Report about Drop in Fatal Car Wrecks
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) February 13, 2015 -- A report states that newer vehicles are getting safer, leading to fewer deaths in accidents, but drivers must continue to observe the rules of the road and avoid distractions, said Nevada personal injury lawyer Glenn A. Paternoster of Aaron & Paternoster.
Paternoster today commented on a Jan. 30 article in Tech Times (“Auto Crash Testing Advancements Drive Down Fatal Car Accidents”).
“As a personal injury attorney in Nevada, I have represented people injured in car accidents and families who have lost loved ones,” Paternoster said. “Serious injury and wrongful death cases are some of the most difficult ones we handle. We see how devastating accidents can be for victims and their families. It’s certainly good news to find out that newer cars are leading to fewer fatalities, but a ‘safe’ car won’t necessarily prevent an accident. Drivers can prevent accidents.”
Paternoster said all drivers should avoid distractions and stay sober and alert behind the wheel.
“Newer cars have more high tech features such as navigation systems and voice-activated music systems,” Paternoster added. “Some scientific studies have found that these devices which improve the driving experience may cause distractions. Drivers need to remember to keep their eyes on the road. They need to realize that even speaking on a hands-free device can cause be a distraction, because your mind is not fully focused on driving.”
The study by the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which looked at 2011 model year automobiles, finds that dying in a car wreck has dropped by about 33 percent, according to Tech Times. What’s more, the safest car has a rating of zero deaths per million registered vehicles. The vehicle described as least safe has fatalities rates of about 100 per million.
The report states that 28 deaths per million were recorded for all 2011 model vehicles. By comparison, 48 deaths per million were recorded for 2008 models.
According to Tech Times, vehicles that have a lower center of gravity are among the safest. The auto industry has moved away from top-heavy SUVs, according to the report.
Paternoster said anyone who is injured in an accident or loses a loved one in an automobile wreck should seek the advice of legal counsel. He explained that an attorney can hold the negligent individual accountable and help the victim recover compensation for his or her losses.
