Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) November 08, 2013 -- Commenting on the news of a recent traffic accident that left three children in critical condition while waiting at a bus stop, Las Vegas car accident lawyer Matthew E. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal (“Three children critical after pickup strikes bus stop in east Las Vegas,” September 20), the accident occurred after two pickup trucks collided, with the driver of a Ford F-350 losing control of the vehicle and swerving into a bus shelter.
“This accident underscores the need for all drivers to remain aware of their surroundings and to exercise extreme caution when around children, period,” said Aaron. “This tragic accident also serves as a reminder that the city needs to do more to protect people who use bus stops. While the city has worked to improve the safety of curbside bus shelters, many of these stops fail to meet these new safety requirements.”
The Las Vegas Review-Journal said that the accident occurred at dangerous intersection that is the site of one of about 1,000 curbside bus shelters that don’t meet newly implemented safety standards requiring bus stops to be at least five feet from the road.
Both drivers involved in the accident claimed they had a green light at the time of the accident, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which left children ages 2, 4, 5 hospitalized for their injuries. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash, the report said.
“While the city must take steps to provide children with safe and secure bus stops, drivers also can do their part to prevent these accidents,” said Aaron, a car accident lawyer in Las Vegas. “It’s critical for drivers to obey the speed limit, drive defensively, and to obey all traffic signals. When there are children waiting for the bus, attempting to beat a yellow light simply isn’t worth the catastrophic injuries that can occur in an accident.”
