Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- It’s an annual phenomenon like the swallows returning to San Juan Capistrano or the salmon running up Alaska’s Chilkat River. Even though the IRS April 15th Federal Income Tax deadline is fast approaching, millions of Americans will wait until the last minute to file their personal returns.
However, this particular Rite of Spring is definitely not a thing of beauty. It’s a frantic melee that, according to Dean Walker, Tax Partner of L.L. Bradford Certified Public Accountants and Consultants in Las Vegas, Nevada, costs taxpayers millions of dollars each year.
“People who file their taxes at the eleventh hour on April 14th are far more likely to overlook important deductions and skip critical steps that may make their returns invalid.” Walker warned. “They’re also more likely to make hasty decisions and calculation errors that can either cost them lots of money or get them in real trouble with IRS auditors. You’d be shocked by how many late filers end up drastically overpaying their taxes or getting hit with significant penalties.”
There are plenty of reasons for this mass tax procrastination. The fact that the IRS 1) doesn’t really care when you file your return as long as it’s before the deadline, and 2) offers no incentive for filing early other than a faster refund if you qualify, may be worthy of a share of the blame. Other reasons may be rooted in our American aversion to handing over sizable chunks of our hard-earned money to the government. But, regardless of any convenient psychological explanations, Walker doesn’t recommend therapy.
“If you’re a procrastinator, the closer the tax deadline gets the more important it is to have a qualified professional prepare your return,” Walker continued. “We’re used to working under pressure, getting everything organized quickly, asking the right questions and finding the right solutions that save you as much money as possible.
“And, we’re happy to work around the clock to get the job done,” Walker added. “It’s what we love to do.”
