LastPass Enhances Mobile Platform to Combat Security Changes to Chrome Mobile, Brings Password and Note Sharing to Android Users

LastPass, the leading password management service, has announced the enhancement of two essential mobile features – the update of its app autofill feature to proactively combat changes that Google Chrome mobile will be rolling out in the next few weeks. In addition, LastPass for Android users will now be able to utilize the password and note sharing feature, enabling the secure sharing of sensitive information between LastPass users directly from Android devices.
In an effort to employ stricter security policies, Google has moved to disable JavaScript injections on Google Chrome for mobile, which LastPass relies on to automatically fill in a user’s credentials as they logged into websites on the mobile browser. In preparation for Google’s stricter security, LastPass updated this feature to be compatible with the changes. LastPass will still be able to detect when a user is brought to a login page while browsing on Google Chrome, and LastPass customers can continue to autofill usernames and passwords directly into the login fields with the LastPass prompts.
“Our customers can still benefit from the ease of one tap to securely log into a site without sacrificing security,” said LastPass CEO and co-founder Joe Siegrist.
Another major update LastPass users can take advantage of is a feature which allows Android users to directly share notes and website logins with friends and family members who also use LastPass. Partners, family, and friends co-managing online accounts, such as banking accounts or investment accounts, will be able to take advantage of easily sharing access to those logins. This feature also allows you to send other LastPass users private information saved within LastPass Secure Notes. Passport numbers, PIN codes, bank account numbers, or any information stored and shared within a note are encrypted to ensure an added layer of security.
“Sending sensitive information like your Social Security number or a login to a third-party site you use for work through regular email presents a huge risk and is subject to interception by hackers. Expanding the secure note and password sharing feature to Android users is a seamless approach to transmitting sensitive information and ensures that the only person who can see the information you send is the person you choose to give access to,” said Siegrist.
The updated Android app, which is included in the LastPass Premium service for $12 per year, is now available on the Google Play Store. Users can try the Premium service for free for two weeks.
