Houston, Texas (PRWEB) January 26, 2016 -- EnergyPoint Research, the only provider of independent customer satisfaction ratings for the oil and gas industry, announces results from its 2015 Oilfield Products & Services Customer Satisfaction Survey citing the companies best positioned for the difficult year ahead.

To a large extent, this year's survey results highlight winning suppliers' abilities to manage on behalf of customers even in times of deep declines in activity.

Overall first-place ratings were captured by last year’s winners in two of the four industry segments covered in the survey: Helmerich & Payne in onshore drilling; and Ensco plc in offshore drilling. Solids-control equipment manufacturer Derrick Equipment captured the top overall spot in the oilfield products segment, while Core Laboratories ranked first overall in oilfield services.

Despite these conditions, the oilfield suppliers at the top of this year’s rankings consistently managed to meet and even exceed customer expectations in performance, quality and service. Onshore Drilling Segment

For the eighth consecutive survey, Helmerich & Payne rated first in total satisfaction among onshore contract drillers. The company also rated first in several additional categories, including performance and reliability, safety and environmental (HSE), shale-oriented applications, Interior Texas & Mid-continent, technology, and four additional categories.

Other companies rating first in various categories of the onshore contract drilling segment include:

  • Ensign Energy Services, in Canada, and;
  • Pioneer Energy Services in job quality, and U.S. Rockies & Dakotas.

Offshore Drilling Segment

Ensco ranked as the top-rated offshore drilling contractor in terms of overall customer satisfaction for the sixth consecutive survey. The company also rated first in several additional categories, including performance and reliability, safety and environmental (HSE), job quality, North Sea, Asia & Pacific Rim, ultra-deepwater wells, horizontal and directional wells, and five others.

Other contractors rating first in at least one category within the offshore drilling segment of the survey include:

  • Atwood Oceanics in the Gulf of Mexico;
  • Diamond Offshore in Sub-Sahara Africa;
  • Rowan Drilling in high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) wells, and;
  • Transocean in technology, and Latin America & Mexico.

Oilfield Products Segment

Derrick Equipment rated first overall among oilfield product suppliers in the survey. The company also captured the top ranking in solids-control equipment, engineering and design, post-sale support, and two additional categories. A perennially strong performer for customers over the years, Derrick has consistently rated at or near the top in EnergyPoint’s oilfield products survey.

Other suppliers rating first in various categories in the oilfield products segment include:

  • Baker Hughes in cements and slurries, downhole motors, and perforating guns;
  • Cameron International in surface BOPs, and subsea manifolds, flowlines and connectors;
  • Carbo Ceramics in proppants;
  • Caterpillar in rig engines, horizontal and directional wells, and two other categories;
  • Dover in artificial lift, performance and reliability, and two other categories;
  • Dril-Quip in post-sale support, risers and flexible joints, subsea wellheads and trees, and two other categories;
  • FMC Technologies in ultra-deepwater applications;
  • Forum Energy Technologies in cementing equipment, and downhole drilling equipment;
  • Gardner Denver in mud pumps, performance and reliability, shale-oriented applications, and two other categories;
  • GE Oil & Gas in flow control equipment;
  • Halliburton in shale-oriented applications, sand control equipment, integrated products, ultra-deepwater applications, intelligent sensors and controls, and four other categories;
  • National Oilwell Varco in subsea BOPs and drill pipe;
  • Newpark Resources in post-sale support, onshore applications, availability and delivery, shale-oriented applications, horizontal and directional wells, and three other categories;
  • Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal in post-sale support, and high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) applications;
  • Oceaneering International in remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), performance and reliability, deepwater applications, and two other categories;
  • Oil States International in engineering and design, and umbilicals and controls;
  • Pason Systems in rig instrumentation and controls;
  • RigNet in communications and networking;
  • Schlumberger in deepwater applications, completion fluids, drill bits, rotary steerable systems, and two other categories;
  • TAM International in completion packers, engineering and design, high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) applications, downhole completion equipment, post-sale support, and three other categories;
  • Tenaris in availability and delivery;
  • Tesco in top drives;
  • US Steel in production tubing;
  • Vallourec in tubular goods, performance and reliability, connections and couplings, casing tubing, and three other categories, and;
  • Weatherford International in tubular-handling equipment.

Oilfield Services Segment

Core Laboratories for the first time captured the top overall rating in the survey's oilfield services segment. In addition to ranking first in total satisfaction, the company garnered top honors in several other categories, including core and fluids analysis, formation and well evaluation, performance and reliability, technology, U.S. & Canada, and five other categories.

Other suppliers ranking first in at least one category in the oilfield services segment include:

  • Baker Hughes in perforation services;
  • Basic Energy Services in fishing services, workovers and well servicing, and two other categories;
  • Bourbon Offshore in marine transportation and supply, platform supply vessels (PSV), and specialty vessels;
  • Bristow Group in helicopter services;
  • C&J Energy Services in cementing services;
  • CGG in geophysical services, onshore data acquisition, and data processing, imaging and modeling;
  • Delmar Systems in mooring services;
  • Ensign Energy Services in Canada;
  • Frank's International in casing and tubing installation, completion-related services, horizontal and directional wells, shelf wells, and two other categories;
  • GulfMark Offshore in anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels;
  • Halliburton in shelf wells, Western Europe, Sub-Sahara Africa, onshore applications, and three additional categories;
  • Newpark Resources in fluids services, drilling-related services, safety and environmental (HSE), job quality, U.S. & Canada, and four other categories;
  • Petroleum Geo-Services in offshore data acquisition, and library sales and multi-client studies;
  • Schlumberger in integrated services, wireline logging, logging-while-drilling (LWD), Gulf of Mexico, Latin America & Mexico, Middle

East & N. Africa, technology, safety and environmental (HSE), ultra-deepwater applications, and eight other categories;

  • Scientific Drilling in measurement-while-drilling (MWD);
  • SEACOR Marine in fast supply vessels (FSV);
  • Superior Energy Services in U.S. Onshore Gulf Coast;
  • Tetra Technologies in well testing, deepwater applications, and two additional categories, and;
  • Weatherford International in directional drilling and sand control services.

"As these suppliers implemented their own cutbacks and dealt with those of their customers, they were also asked to develop new and improved ways of delivering their products and services," said Sheridan. "These advances in quality, efficiency and process will be the foundation upon which future industry growth is built."

Survey Information

EnergyPoint's closely followed oilfield product and services survey, which has been conducted annually since 2003, is the only study of its kind focused on the oil and gas industry's satisfaction with major upstream oilfield suppliers. Survey respondents rate suppliers in four segments: onshore contract drillers, offshore contract drillers, oilfield products and oilfield services.

A total of 79 major industry suppliers received the minimum number of evaluations needed to be considered for this year’s final rankings. This represents the largest group of evaluated suppliers ever for this survey, as EnergyPoint has expanded both the number of suppliers and industry categories for which ratings are collected and published.

For the survey, suppliers were evaluated in various areas such as total satisfaction, pricing and contract terms, performance and reliability, technology, engineering and design, job quality, safety and environmental, service and professionalism, post-sale support and corporate capabilities. Additionally, suppliers were evaluated across multiple product and service segments, well types and applications, and domestic and international regions.

For those categories and suppliers in which ratings existed, scores from the 2012-2013 survey period were included in this year's category-winner calculations at lesser weightings than for the 2014-2015 period. In no case were 2012-2013 ratings assigned a weighting of more than 20 percent for purposes of calculating final category winners.
