LATISM Announces Wendy Rivera as its First Executive Director
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 21, 2015 -- Latinos in Tech Innovation and Social Media (LATISM) is proud to welcome Attorney Wendy Rivera as its first executive director. Prior to joining LATISM, Wendy served as staff counsel and director of Hispanic Affairs for Minority Media and Telecommunications Council (MMTC), a national civil rights organization recognized as the leading advocate for civil rights in the mass media, telecommunications, and broadband industries. Her work primarily focused on communications issues that have the greatest impact on the Hispanic community and women entrepreneurs.
“Wendy is a dynamic professional with a solid public interest track record and we are thrilled she has joined LATISM,” said Ana Roca-Castro, founder of LATISM. Prior to her work at MMTC, Wendy practiced administrative law for the law firm of Hill & Ponton, P.A. She was also the assistant general counsel for a national regulatory firm where her portfolio included foreign ownership investment reform.
“Wendy is a brilliant attorney relentlessly focused on engaging communities to keep minority youth competitive and equipped with lifetime success" said Hon. Julia Johnson, MMTC Board Chair. Wendy has devoted her time, leadership, and support to benefit many worthy causes. She successfully led and managed the Multicultural Education Alliance, Florida-based non-profit organization focused on increasing student achievement.
Under her leadership, Wendy brought together organizations in a coalition effort in support for public causes. As an ardent defender of civil rights, Wendy commits legal services pro bono to the community. She was a participating attorney for the Legal Redress Committee of the Florida State Conference Branches of the NAACP. She was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to serve on the Orange County Nuisance Abatement Board and was subsequently elected its chair.
"I have known Wendy to be actively involved in the community,” said Florida State Representative Robert “Bob” Cortes. “She also watched out for our education interest. She is a Hispanic leader that is passionate about the issues that face our nation."
Currently, Wendy serves on the board of Hispanic Council for Reforming Educational Options (HCREO) and Latinos in Information, Science and Technology Association (LISTA). She sits on the Hispanic Task Force of Seminole County Public Schools and chairs Dialogue on Diversity’s Annual Information Technology Entrepreneurial Conference in Washington D.C.

Wendy earned her bachelor of science degree from the University of Central Florida, Juris Doctorate from Stetson University College of Law and is admitted to practice law in Florida. Wendy is a proud mom and lives in Florida with her husband and children.
