Laura Lavayén’s novel to be featured at 2014 Guadalajara International Book Fair
OCEAN CITY, N.J. (PRWEB) March 23, 2015 -- Three years ago, dog-lover and author Laura Lavayén delivered her Spanish-language novel, “Los dueños de la ciudad” (published by Trafford Publishing), a book that centers on the responsibility to protect and care for dogs. The book will be featured at the 2014 Guadlajara International Book Fair.
The Guadalajara International Book Fair brings readers, author, publishers, agents and other book enthusiasts together from all over the globe. Started 28 years ago by the University of Guadalajara, the fair serves as a cultural festival as well as a public forum for academic discussion. This year, the fair will span from Nov. 29 — Dec. 7.
With “Los dueños de la ciudad”, Lavayén creates a fictional story to add greater personal appeal to her campaign to help stray dogs. As Lavayén explains, far too many dogs roam city streets without food, shelter or the loving touch of a human. She believes dogs’ rights and feelings are being ignored.
“They are often treated like objects of possession,” says Lavayén, “rather than the precious beings that they are.”
An excerpt from “Los dueños de la ciudad”:
“Marcela terminó la cena y esperó a que su tía cerrara el negocio. Tomó el diario de la mesa y empezó a leerlo sin mucho interés. Había sido un día muy ocupado. Sin un segundo para disfrutar. A veces eso ocurría cuando recibían nueva mercancía y debían ponerle los precios y distribuirla en las alacenas.”
