Leaders in Northern Virginia Hunger Relief Efforts to Hold News Conference Addressing SNAP Cuts, Increased Hunger Among Children and Families
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) April 10, 2015 -- Local leaders will hold a news conference Friday at 9:30 a.m. to voice concern over the budget plan recently passed by the House of Representatives which would convert the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) into a block grant and cut funding by as much as $125 billion (34 percent) over five years. Joining Virginia Fair Share will be Mayor William Euille, from the City of Alexandria, Cecelia Vergaretti, Senior Director of the Northern Virginia Region of the Capital Area Food Bank, and Esperita Bullard, Customer Service Manager of the Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services. Speakers will discuss the impact of these proposed cuts on children in Northern Virginia and urge federal officials to make investments that are critical to help end childhood hunger.
