Leadership Iowa Now Accepting Nominations Through May 1st For The Upcoming 2015-16 Class
Des Moines, IA (PRWEB) April 21, 2015 -- Leadership Iowa is a premier issues-awareness program promoting leadership within the state. It is designed to educate, challenge and inspire the participants to bring out their inherent quality to “point the way.” The ultimate goal is to instill passion in current and emerging leaders while fostering a high level of civic engagement.
Since its inception in 1982, Leadership Iowa has graduated hundreds of men and women from both the private and public sector. This diverse group of alumni represents every geographical region of the state and virtually all walks of life.
A real “eye-opener,” Leadership Iowa gives the participants a full-spectrum vision of the state. A new perspective on its people, its needs and, most importantly, its opportunities.
Leadership Iowa gives its participants a wide range of experiences and insights that focus on the issues and challenges facing Iowa. Through this enhancement of awareness, the program equips leaders to better appreciate and understand the condition of the entire state. What's more, those selected for the program build a "network" with fellow participants that reaches across geographic, professional and economic lines. This network is personally enriching far beyond the program year.
The program hosts an integrated series of eight monthly sessions in different regions of the state. The program begins in October and runs through June (the class observes a one month winter break). Most sessions begin midmorning on Thursday and end Friday afternoon. Topics typically include government, agriculture, education, healthcare, economic development and other pertinent issues facing the state of Iowa. Each session features presentations by acknowledged leaders and experts in their respective fields. In addition, a variety of other learning activities are incorporated to further leadership development.
"The Leadership Iowa program has been, by far, the best adventure for me personally and professionally", says Cheryl O'Hern, LI Board of Governors.
Leadership Iowa candidates are nominated for the program. Self-nominations are also encouraged. A committee evaluates each application and makes its selections based on several criteria. The leadership potential of the individual is certainly a major factor. Diversity of the group is also strongly considered. Leadership Iowa knows the value of the synergy that develops when people gather from a wide continuum of professions and places.
Leadership Iowa is a program supported by ABI Iowa Association of Industry and Business Foundation. Additional programs include Business Horizons, Leadership Iowa University and Young Professionals. ABI is located at 400 East Court Avenue, Suite 100, Des Moines, IA 50309.
