Leading Drug Rehabilitation Center, Sunshine Coast Health Center Issues Alert on Fentanyl Overdose
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) September 30, 2015 -- Sunshine Coast Health Center (SCHC), a top-rated drug rehabilitation treatment center in British Columbia, Canada, at http://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca, is issuing a public alert for October 2015, on an alarming increase in Fentanyl overdoses in Canada. The Center has been alerted to potential alumni deaths that possibly resulted from unknowingly ingesting Fentanyl in combination with other drugs. The source of this information is the Center itself; due to patient confidentiality the center cannot release the names publically but confirms at least two deaths.
"With an extensive network of clinicians, alumni, and current clients who are all touched by the problems of drug abuse, Sunshine Coast is ideally positioned to be among the first to experience new waves of drug abuse problems," explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. "We are using a formal press release as a way to alert the general public to the new and growing Fentanyl overdose problem."
Sunshine Coast publishes one of the most popular guides to street drugs and drug abuse at http://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/drug-information/. For the specific section on Fentanyl, please visit http://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/drug/pain-killer-addiction/.
Alert on the Fentanyl Overdose Problem: SCHC Perspective
SCHC feels that the general public needs to be warned that many people thought they were using a different drug when they died of fentanyl poisoning. People aren't chemists and so depend on unregulated dealers for both daily and occasional use. They have no way of knowing what the supply chain for that substance is. Sunshine Coast has received anecdotal evidence from healthcare workers of fentanyl mixed into nearly every other drug available.
A second point is that the rise of Fentanyl has come on the back of the prohibition of Oxycontin. It is an unintended consequence that people in Canada went to a stronger opioid (knowingly or unknowingly) instead of a weaker one (or into recovery) when the manufacturers changed to OxyNeo, a form of Oxycodone users cannot snort or inject. While SCHC is an abstinence based program, it strongly believes that harm reduction is a moral imperative. Ethical obligations demand that everyone value the lives of the addicted and provide whatever support they need so they do not die of their drug and alcohol use while we work to help them achieve a healthy and full life. This alert on Fentanyl overdose is one small step towards informing the public of its dangers.
