Learn the New Safety Codes Impacting the Energy Industry
Bloomington, Minn. (PRWEB) August 29, 2016 -- On Aug. 1 IEEE Standards Association announced changes to the National Electrical Safety Code® (NESC®), the authoritative code for ensuring the continued practical safeguarding of persons and utility facilities during the installation, operation, and maintenance of electric supply and communication facilities.
According to David J. Marne, a registered professional electrical engineer and author of McGraw Hill’s “NESC Handbook,” major updates in the 2017 Edition include:
• Definitions for the communication and supply space.
• Revisions to adjoining substation fence restrictions.
• Overhead guy insulator placement rule changes.
• Exceptions for underground cable grounding requirements.
• Alignment of Part 4 worker safety rules with Occupational Safety and Health Administration work rules.
MEA is partnering with Marne on Oct. 26 for their NESC 2017 Update and Safety Forum, where he will be live streamed from Montana to an in-person and online audience for a 90 minute review of the major changes in grounding requirements, supply station rules, clearances of overhead lines, and more.
Marne is a nationally recognized speaker on the NESC, serves on NESC Subcommittee 4 Overhead Lines Clearances, Subcommittee 7 Underground Lines, Subcommittee 3 Electric Supply Stations, and the Interpretations Subcommittee.
The Oct. 26 MEA event will also feature a presentation on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E requirements for safe work practices to protect personnel by reducing exposure to major electrical hazards, a discussion panel on Utility Grid Resiliency, and a roundtable discussion on ‘Grid Resiliency at Your Company,’ presented by safety and compliance expert Danny Raines.
Participants can attend in person at MEA’s Training Center in Minnesota or access the presentations and discussion live online. Supervisors, engineers, inspectors and those responsible for safety are highly encouraged to invest the time in this one day event.
