LED Lights Respond to SOL Dome LED Structure
(PRWEB UK) 21 October 2013 -- Design firm Loop.pH have unveiled a giant responsive LED light structure at an art festival in Michigan, where it will be exhibited until the end of the month, reports Design Boom. The pavilion measures 8 by 4 metres and weighs 40 kg, dazzling visitors with its animated movements. The structure is made up of thousands of circles woven together on a wire-like frame, and these merged fibres change according to the pieces’ surroundings.
The circles are lighted by lots of solar powered LED lights, powered by a CO2 sensor. This creates a circular ‘breathing’ movement that makes the pavilion appear to visitors as if it is alive. The construction of the dome is reportedly based on the chemical bonds between carbon atoms, with each fibre charging the LEDs when bent inwards. The dome was built on-site over three days.
Loop.pH, the London design firm behind the SOL Dome, said: “Ultimately, we have a vision for an entirely new type of architecture that responds and adapts to its environment, similarly to a plant and its surrounding ecosystem. We dream of a living architecture that photosynthesises, moves and orientates in accordance to the sun. It is an architecture whereby the inhabitants can actively participate in its shape, form and function.”
