Left Hand Bear brand left-handed guitars become collectors' instruments
Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 28 August 2013 -- Left Hand Bear brand acoustic guitars are now collectors' items, with only 21 of the exclusively left-handed guitars still available, says the brand's creator Simon Middleton.
Middleton, who runs banjo specialist businesses Banjos Direct and The Great British Banjo Company, began manufacturing Left Hand Bear guitars in 2010.
"We manufactured about a hundred instruments, exclusively left-handed, in a range of acoustic and electro-acoustic body styles," Middleton explained.
"Last year we closed the Left Hand Bear website and absorbed the business into the banjo retail operation, because the latter was demanding all of our attention.
"But we still get asked about the Left Hand Bear guitars, and they have sold steadily to the point where we are down to the last few, the last 21 to be specific," Middleton added.
"I'm a lefty, and was a guitarist and singer in bands for many years, always struggling to find left-handed instruments, which is why we created the brand."
Left Hand Bear was so-called because bears, unlike humans, have a strong tendency to be left-pawed. This was understood by native Americans, who revered left-handedness as a sign of wisdom. There was a Sioux Chief in the nineteenth century named Chief Left Hand Bear.
The Left Hand Bear range includes an all solid wood dreadnought acoustic model called the Chief, and a solid top dreadnought called the Grizzly. There is also an electro-acoustic version of the solid top guitar, named the Lightning Grizzly.
In addition there are three childrens'/travel guitars in different sizes, named the Cub, the Tenderfoot, and the Brave.

"We love these guitars, and so have our left-handed customers, and we'll be sad when they're gone. We may revive the brand in the future, but this particular range of instruments will never be repeated, and they were made in small numbers and of course were exclusively left-handed, so we think they're going to become collector pieces amongst lefty guitarists," Middleton added.
