Lessons From the Limbs on Your Family Tree
Martinez, G.A. (PRWEB) January 23, 2014 -- Your family history can affect much more than just your health. In fact, what you do now can determine what your descendants choose to do generations from now.
“A Good Inheritance” by Daughtry Miller tells the stories of two boys who lived a hundred years apart, Lofton James during the American Civil War and Wade James – his great-grandson – during the Civil Rights Movement.
“The wartime experiences of the first boy profoundly affect not only his own life but also that of the second boy,” Miller said.
The great-grandson finds himself sidelined with an injury for months and spends the downtime with his ancestor’s journal, which tells Lofton’s wartime story. When trying to make a decision, Wade thinks back to the situation in the journal and what his great-grandfather chose to do.
“Moral courage is very difficult to exercise but is just as important as physical courage,” Miller said.
Miller, a retired history professor, saw the perfect opportunity to match his knowledge of the South to his family history. Between the two, he created a story with a strong family legacy.
“I was aware of my great-grandfather’s service and had a long-standing desire to try my hand at writing fiction; this was my way to commemorate my family’s legacy,” Miller said.
