Walnute Creek, CA (PRWEB) November 26, 2013 -- LeVar Burton, beloved television, movie actor and inspiring literary advocate, will present the general session keynote at the Annual CUE 2014 Conference to be held March 20-22, 2014 in Palm Springs, California.
LeVar Burton, host and producer of PBS’ Peabody Award-winning program Reading Rainbow from 1983 to 2009, will give his presentation Friday, March 21 during the General Session from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
In addition to his work promoting literacy in early education, Burton and Mark Wolfe collaborated to develop and launch RR Kidz, a leading educational app that launched in 2012. Burton’s all new Reading Rainbow App is the number one educational app on iTunes and delivers more than 75,000 quality books and more than 50,000 video field trips to hundreds of thousands of children each week. Says Burton of his involvement with CUE, “In today’s world, if we wish to reach our children, it has to be through the marriage of technology and quality learning. This generation of kids are digital natives. I’m very excited to speak to and meet with members of the CUE community to share my thoughts and learn from them.”
Burton has played iconic roles in both television and movies, including being known the world over as Chief Engineer Geordi LaForge from television’s Star Trek: The Next Generation and in the groundbreaking role of Kunta Kinte in the landmark television series ROOTS.
“It is such a huge honor to have LeVar Burton speak to our attendees. So many hours of our lives were spent watching him on television in either his dramatic roles or when he was teaching us how to read and appreciate great books. Either way, the man embodies technology at its finest, and our conference attendees are in for a huge thrill,” said Mike Lawrence, CUE’s Executive Director.
