Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie salutes former partner as 2016 Citizen of the West
DENVER, Colo. (PRWEB) January 13, 2016 -- Former Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie partner and Wyoming Gov. Mike Sullivan is the 2016 Citizen of the West, recognizing his many accomplishments in public service. The award is presented to community leaders who exemplify the spirit and determination of a western pioneer, honoring their economic and philanthropic endeavors in the West.
He accepted the accolade Jan. 11 at the National Western Stock Show during a dinner to raise funds for the National Western Scholarship Trust. The dinner was emceed by Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie partner Jim Lyons, a longtime friend and colleague of Sullivan.
Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie’s Real Estate industry team, led by Frances Haynes and Kristin Bronson, hosted a private reception at the firm’s offices prior to the dinner. The reception attracted more than 100 business and civic leaders, including former Colorado governors Bill Owens and Bill Ritter, and former Wyoming U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson.
Sullivan’s many relationships across Colorado and Wyoming, as well as government relations and public policy experience, contributed to the firm’s Real Estate practice’s ongoing success, according to Haynes.
Previous recipients of the Citizen of the West recognition include Justice Byron White, Sen. Alan Simpson, Philip Anschutz, Lynn Cheney, Pete Coors and Kenneth W. Monfort.
Sullivan recently retired from the firm, having worked there from 2001 – 2015, focusing his practice in the areas of public policy, alternative dispute resolution and litigation. His tenure at Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie began with legacy firms Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons and later Lewis Roca Rothgerber.
Sullivan has a rich and varied background of public service. A former two-term governor of Wyoming, he served as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland under the Clinton and Bush administrations.
Sullivan was elected governor of Wyoming in 1986 and reelected in 1990. In 1996, after completing his second term as governor, he held a fellowship at the Institute of Politics, the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
Sullivan practiced law before Wyoming district courts, the Wyoming Supreme Court, Federal District Court, and the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals involving a variety of business, insurance and natural resource issues, and routinely acted as a mediator and arbitrator.
Recognition of his legal career included listings in Mountain States Super Lawyers, Chambers USA and The Best Lawyers in America.
He also is recipient of the Wyoming State Bar President's Award, Wyoming National Guard's Distinguished Service Medal, the University of Wyoming and University of Wyoming College of Law's Outstanding Alumnus Awards, the Wyoming Heritage Society's Award of Merit, and was named to the University of Wyoming College of Engineering Hall of Fame.
