Lex Mundi Collaborates with the University of Cambridge, Judge Business School to Provide Top-Level Business Management Training for Lawyers
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) January 20, 2014 -- In a continuing effort to increase the impact and effectiveness of lawyers working with their clients, Lex Mundi recently completed the first-ever Lex Mundi Institute Business Management Program in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, Judge School of Business.
The intensive five-day program, held in Cambridge January 5-10, 2014, was taught by the faculty of Cambridge Judge Business School. Forty lawyers from 29 countries experienced the unique atmosphere of Cambridge while learning through highly-interactive lectures, group discussions and case studies. The curriculum included:
• The core concepts of strategic management, including an introduction to the main schools of business and corporate strategy
• Macroeconomics and an overview of the macro economy
• Corporate finance and capital markets
• Understanding uncertainty and business modeling
• The role of operations in a business organization, including process improvement and the principles of integrated supply chain management
• Organizational change and large-scale change management programs
• The dynamics of high performance teams
The Lex Mundi Institute Business Management Program was designed to increase lawyers’ understanding of their clients’ business challenges and the concepts that underlie their business operations. “Clients now expect more from their legal advisors,” commented Carl Anduri, President of Lex Mundi. “They expect their advisors to understand their business and where they can add value.”
The program was led by Tim Bellis, Fellow in Management Practice for professional services firms at Cambridge Judge Business School’s executive education group. He commented, “Lex Mundi is the first law firm network with which Cambridge Judge Business School has collaborated. I was very impressed by the enthusiasm with which this very diverse group of senior lawyers from around the world interacted with our faculty throughout the week. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Lex Mundi.”
The program was open to Lex Mundi member firm lawyers with at least four years of experience as partners. Participants were required to be nominated by their member firm. Said Stéphane Puel de Parlant, Managing Partner at Gide Loyrette Nouel, Lex Mundi member firm for France, said “Gide was proud to participate in the inaugural Lex Mundi Institute Business Management Program. It provides the kind of training that lawyers need to be able to think more like their clients and to be a more effective part of their legal teams.”
Participation in the program was also open to in-house counsel and included lawyers from Audi AG and SABMiller plc. Michael Clifford, Treasury Counsel at SABMiller said, “The program deepened my understanding of business management concepts and enhanced my ability to serve my internal clients. I also enjoyed the opportunity to provide a client perspective to the program.”
The Lex Mundi Institute is led by Suzanne Fine, Lex Mundi’s Director of Professional Development. Since its first program in 2004, the Lex Mundi Institute has provided unique, intensive week-long advanced learning opportunities for Lex Mundi member firm lawyers and corporate counsel. Ms. Fine stated, “The Business Management Program is the most recent addition to the Lex Mundi Institute’s line-up of leading edge programs. We look forward to working with Cambridge and building on the program’s success in 2015.”
