Lexington Christian Academy Announces 4 Gold Key and 7 Silver Key Winners
Lexington, MA (PRWEB) March 31, 2015 -- Lexington Christian Academy is proud of its strong representation again this year in the Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. “Our students are encouraged from the start to explore meaningful and ambitious artwork, so it isn't surprising that so many were so successful in this year's Scholastic Competition,” said Amy Chaney, Head of the LCA’s arts program. “These awards are a reflection of LCA’s talented and artistically diverse student body. Students covered many different media, from painting to stained glass, to a print made from a real, live fish!”
“We had exceptional submissions this year,” Chaney continued. “We submitted a wider breadth of work and are thrilled to celebrate such great outcomes.” 30 LCA students placed with final awards among more than 20,000 works submitted by 8,000 students. The submissions, entered into 28 different categories, are judged on their originality, technical skill, and personal voice or vision.
LCA’s Gold Key winners include: Brooke Krivickas, daughter of Joseph Krivickas of Winchester, MA, for her poem, “Where I’m From”; Kevin Lee, son of Jinbo Lee and Zuwen Kuang of Andover, MA, who earned two gold keys for his painting, “Existential Bliss,” and also for his drawing, “How I Feel About Standardized Testing”; and Christina DiBrova, daughter of Volodymyr and Lidia Dibrova of North Billerica, MA, for her photograph, “Reflections.”
Silver Key winners in writing include: Akwasi Appiah, son of Francis Okyem and Agnes Manu of Lowell, MA, for his essay, “The View of Medieval Women”; Natalie Cist, daughter of David and Alex Cist of Winchester, MA, for her essay, “The Greatest War Ever”; Oluwadara Faleye, son of Olubunmi and Folashade Faleye of Billerica, MA for his essay, “Identity Crisis”; and Annika Johnson, daughter of R. Paul and Lori Johnson, of Burlington, MA, for her poem, “Girl of Night.”
In the fine arts category, the Silver Key winners were: Xergio Aguilar, son of Sergio and Janet Aguilar of Melrose, MA, for his stained glass piece, “Ray”; Chase Krivikas, son of Joseph Krivikas of Winchester, MA, for his monoprint, “Untitled”; and Kevin Lee for his drawing, “ Faunagami.”
Additionally, 19 students earned Honorable Mention certificates. For writing these included: Matt Figucia, Megan Franz, Grace Jang, Alexandra Johnson, Erin Palmer, Emma Sharon, and Emily Stutzman. And in fine arts these included: Akwasi Appiah, Amber Biron, Annika Johnson, Hannah Koizumi, Chase Krivikas, Yufeng Long, Grace Moore, Eun Kyung Noh, Olivia Petipas, Emma Sharon, Svetlana Sheehan, and Ziqian Zhang.
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation’s youth, and provided opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated. Students’ submissions are blindly judged by leaders in the visual and literary arts. The program represents the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition initiative for creative teens, and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers.
