Lexington Christian Academy Senior Performs Capstone Recital
LEXINGTON, Mass. (PRWEB) March 08, 2018 -- On Friday, February 16th, soon-to-be Lexington Christian Academy graduate Jennifer Murphy of Woburn, MA (’18) performed her Senior recital in front of LCA faculty, family and friends. The concertgoers gathered in the school’s Cross Center for Worship and the Performing Arts to hear Murphy showcase her talents. A pianist, singer, and composer, Murphy’s passion for music was on full display during the memorable evening.
Murphy took care to select pieces for the recital that included many eras and displayed her abilities. She began with The Phantom of the Opera’s “Music of the Night” as an introduction to the evening’s festivities. Other works included original music that Murphy has written herself during her time at LCA. “Since the recital date fell on Chinese New Year, I thought it was only fitting to perform “Cheerful Whispers of Spring,” said Murphy. “ I wrote this piece to focus on my Chinese heritage and in conjunction with my Global Studies Concentration. I originally composed it for piano, erhu, and Chinese flute but rearranged it to be played for piano, violin, and flute for the recital. My other selection was “Camelot: La Vie du Roi Arthur”; a piano and violin duet, it follows the story of King Arthur through his life in Camelot.”
The concert served as a capstone event for Murphy’s completion of the LCA Concentration program, a unique opportunity that allows students to enhance the school’s liberal arts curriculum by exploring an area of interest in greater depth. Along with the Arts focus that Murphy has studied, students can also concentrate in the fields of Global Studies or STEM.
"Jennifer performed beautifully at her recital,” said Dr. Matthew Visconti, LCA’s Instrumental Music Director. “I am proud of her accomplishments inside and outside of LCA! The Music Concentration at LCA is organized in a manner that prepares students for a potential career in music. The final recital is a culmination of their high school music career and serves as a transition into what they will be doing regularly at the collegiate and professional levels."
“From the meticulously designed invitations, posters, and programs to the color-matching of my dress to the lights, I learned a lot from this whole experience, and everyone worked hard to support me,” reflected Murphy following the performance. “Dr. Visconti and Mr. Shey made sure my playing was performance-ready while Mr. Greco and his team were working hard to prepare the stage, lights and sound system. Two months of intense preparation later, the stage opened to more than two hundred guests. I love to perform as it gives me the freedom to express my passion for music, and this recital was no different. As I took my final bow to a standing ovation, I felt so blessed. God has given me this extraordinary talent and in that moment, I knew that I had shared my gift with his people to the best of my ability. Thanks, LCA, for creating this moment!”
