Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) January 13, 2015 -- In the summer of 2013, buzz about the successful HBO film Behind the Candelabra was just beginning, and, upon seeing a trailer for the film, long time Liberace fan Martyn Ravenhill found himself wondering about the fate of the pianist’s Las Vegas mansion. After finding out that the property had been foreclosed upon, and that another interested party had bowed out, Ravenhill immediately flew to Las Vegas to acquire it. Knowing what a remarkable piece of history the home was and wishing to preserve its grandeur, as well as the memory of the legendary star, Ravenhill has spent the past year and a half dedicated to his mission to bring the home back to its former glory.
When Martyn Ravenhill purchased the mansion in 2013, it was in dire need of repairs. The home, which is over 15,000 square feet, had suffered excessive damage over the years that did not end with just the peeling wallpaper. However, Ravenhill was determined to bring the mansion back to its original splendor and keep the magic of its namesake alive.
One of the biggest challenges faced during the restoration of the Liberace Mansion came from its very foundation. Not long after the purchase was made, it was found that the home was resting on two enormous sinkholes that would have swallowed parts of the house had they been left unattended for much longer. These sinkholes rested beneath Liberace’s master bathroom and closet and within two years’ time would have destroyed stunning elements of the home. The cost to fill the sinkholes and preserve the home was over half a million dollars but was a price that Ravenhill was glad to pay to ensure that the building and its history would be saved.
With the initial repairs coming to an end, and the next stage of the restoration at hand, Martin Ravenhill is considering a number of options for the home. With the exception of two private living spaces for Ravenhill and the property manager respectively, the Mansion has been lovingly restored to be a showcase and a celebration of Liberace that Ravenhill would love to share in some way. From the luxurious marble bathtub to the stunning Sistine Chapel recreation painted on the mansion ceiling by Stefano Angelo Falk, a direct decedent of Michelangelo himself, each part of the mansion is being carefully renovated and restored to match its former glory.
For Martyn Ravenhill, this project has been one that is dear to his heart and that he has treasured. He is excited that so much progress has been made on the mansion, and he eagerly looks forward to the continuing process ahead and to his end goal of creating a home that is worthy of the legendary Liberace.
