Liberty University to Host Regional Research Symposium
Lynchburg, Va. (PRWEB) September 29, 2017 -- The Big South Undergraduate Research Symposium (BigSURS) is coming to Liberty University in April 2018, bringing together schools from the Big South Conference (Liberty’s NCAA Division I athletics conference) as well as schools across Central Virginia to showcase student research and scholarship in various fields of study.
BigSURS is an outgrowth of the Big South Conference’s Academic Consortium and is modeled after the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), the nation’s major national collegiate academic conference.
Events will take place April 13-14, immediately following Research Week, with awards given to outstanding undergraduate research in a number of areas. Presentation formats include posters, oral presentations, performances, and works of art.
Past events have drawn hundreds of entries from approximately 20 institutions. In recent years, Liberty has consistently reaped multiple first place awards. This will be the first time Liberty has hosted the symposium, and it will showcase a number of its facilities for the event, including the Jerry Falwell Library, the Center for Natural Sciences, and the Center for Music and the Worship Arts.
“Providing undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in research-focused events develops skills that will benefit them during their current academic experience and in future academic and professional pursuits,” said Dr. Ronald Hawkins, Liberty’s provost and chief academic officer. “Hosting BigSURS provides an opportunity for Big South students to get to know each other and celebrate, learning from one another.”
