Life Insurance Beneficiary Dispute Resolved in Miami Federal Court Case
Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- The Law Offices of Jason Turchin today announces the settlement of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company v. Metaxa, et. al., U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Case No. 0:14-cv-60646-RNS.
The case was filed as an interpleader action pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 22 in the Federal Court under diversity jurisdiction because the amount in controversy exceeded $75,000.00 and the life insurance company was from out of state, according to the Complaint.
"It was our clients' position that another Defendant allegedly unduly influenced the changing of a life insurance beneficiary designation form, or alternatively, the insured lacked capacity to understand what he was signing prior to his death," said the family's attorney Jason Turchin, referencing the Answer to the Interpleader Complaint. "The case has now been resolved to the satisfaction of all claimants."
Jason Turchin's law firm represents beneficiaries in life insurance claims and disputes, including interpleader actions. "Interpleader actions typically involve competing claims for life insurance benefits, and an insurance company who does not know which beneficiary is entitled to the benefits. The life insurance company often deposits the money in the Court's Registry while the beneficiaries fight over the benefits," summarizes Turchin.
