Lincoln Primary Care’s 2014 Health Fair and Heat'n The Hills Chilifest in Hamlin WV Slated For August 22nd-23rd
Hamlin, WV (PRWEB) July 30, 2014 -- The 2014 Heat’n The Hills Chilifest, featuring free music, food, family fun, fireworks and more will take place on the grounds of Lincoln Primary Care, 7400 Lynn Ave in Hamlin, WV Saturday August 23rd. Proceeds benefit Lincoln Primary Care Center's Senior Lunch Program. Each weekday, the program feeds over 120 local area seniors. This year’s entertainment is headlined by multi-platinum recording artists The Georgia Satellites.
In addition to the main Chilifest event on Saturday August 23rd, Lincoln Primary Care underwrites one of the state's largest free community health fairs Friday, August 22nd from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Health Fair will offer multiple types of health screenings, testing, blood pressure checks, mammograms, and much more to help keep you aware and in your best health, according to Lincoln Primary Care’s Brian Crist. Heat’n The Hills Chilifest on Saturday will include kid's and family games, a classic car show, a variety of displays from multiple crafters and vendors, and plenty of delicious Southern West Virginia country cooking. The Chilifest competition will consist of four different categories: Hot and Spicy, Sweet and Mild, a Corporate competition, and The People's Choice. Guests of the Chilifest can purchase tickets to sample the different kinds of chili and vote for their favorite for the People's Choice Chili. Judges will conduct the rest of the competition, and the grand prize winner will receive a one of a kind Blenko handblown glass award, along with this year's bragging rights.
Entertainment begins at 4:00 PM with The Band Wagon, a local favorite bluegrass band. The LC Band is set to perform at 6:00 PM, followed by the southern rockers The Georgia Satellites at 8:00 PM. Summer’s biggest fireworks display will begin immediately following the concert at 9:30 PM. Hamlin WV is just off “Corridor G” a short drive from both Huntington and Charleston WV.
ABOUT THE BAND
The Georgia Satellites were one of the most ferocious bands to break big in the 1980’s. What set them apart from the other 10,000 groups that cranked their amps to 11, was that the Southern rockers wild riffs and tanked cries came from a quartet that understood its place in rock tradition and fought hard to solidify it with each recording and performance.
Founded in 1985, the Satellites quickly launched into stardom with the massive hit “Keep Your Hands to Yourself,” (which was everywhere on the radio and in heavy MTV rotation, and continues to be one of the most played and beloved songs of the era) “Battleship Chains”, “Hippy Hippy Shake” from the smash movie soundtrack “Cocktail” starring Tom Cruise and others. Several critically acclaimed albums and hundreds of mind-bending performances earned the boys a permanent spot in music history.
After a brief sabbatical following the departure of lead vocalist Dan Baird, The Georgia Satellites returned with a vengeance in 1993 with guitarist Rick Richards moving up front. Since then, the band has packed houses around the world for the last two decades with their blistering brand of Southern rock.
As their current live shows illustrate, the Georgia Satellites have expanded forever the limits and the promise of what a band can do with three chords (well, sometimes only two) played harder than ever before.
