Linfield College Announces Release of Guide to Online College Revised and Updated for 2014
McMinnville, OR (PRWEB) July 31, 2014 -- Linfield College has released the 2nd edition of its popular eBook, "Transformations: A Guide to Online College for Adults." Revised and updated for 2014, the ten-chapter guide describes what online learning is and provides guidelines on making informed decisions when choosing an online degree program.
“As more and more people look to online education to fulfill long‐held dreams or to meet workplace demands, we wanted to help answer their questions,” said Janet Gifford, who revised the guide for 2014. Readers will find answers to questions like, “What questions should be asked before making a commitment? How does online learning differ from face‐to‐face learning? What is accreditation and how important is it? Are the degrees earned through online courses well respected and recognized?”
Online education has grown rapidly over the last decade. According to a survey of over 2,800 colleges and universities by the Babson Survey Research Group, over 7 million college students were taking at least one online course during the fall 2013 term, a 16 percent increase over the past decade. Over thirty-three percent of all U.S. college students were taking at least one online course in the fall of 2013.
The guide was created as a practical resource for adult learners considering an online bachelor’s degree or professional certificate. “We have taken the guesswork out of choosing an online program by providing guidelines on how to evaluate which school is the best fit for you,” said Gifford. Incorporated into the guide is also an online learning survey that adult learners can take to discover whether they have the profile of an online learner.
In a recent survey by U.S. News & World Report, the online degree program at Linfield College is ranked as one of the best in the nation. Linfield was one of only four schools in the Pacific Northwest included in the rankings. The rankings are based on criteria which include student engagement with faculty and classmates; faculty credentials and training; peer reputation; diverse online learning technologies that allow students greater flexibility; and student services that provide a strong support structure.
