Link-Assistant.Com publishes takeaways from the BrightonSEO conference
(PRWEB) April 29, 2015 -- Link-Assistant.Com, the leading SEO software provider and the company behind SEO PowerSuite, was attending the BrightonSEO conference earlier in April to showcase the SEO PowerSuite software at their booth and network with the industry peers.
BrightonSEO is renowned in the SEO community for the insightful presentations delivered by the most seasoned industry experts. Some of the out-of-the-box ideas from the speakers were summarized by Link-Assistant.Com in the guide titled "5 Things You’re Doing Wrong".
The key takeaways, presented in the guide, include:
1. When doing local SEO, there’s no need to avoid backlinks from low authority sites because of Penguin.
If there’s a low authority site, but it's highly relevant to a specific local area, that's a really great link to get. It might not carry lots of SEO authority, but it carries a lot of local relevancy, which proves to have a positive impact on rankings.
2. Multiple pages of a site shouldn’t compete in Google for the same keywords.
Internal cannibalization is a conflict between two or more of site’s pages competing for the same search term. When Google is confused as to which of the pages to return for the keyword, there’s often a decline in rankings.
3. When doing keyword research, one should avoid focus on head terms only and not paying attention to long-tail keywords.
Head keyword terms are becoming less important. Search volumes are now seen to be spread evenly across millions of terms.
4. When it comes to e-commerce SEO, it’s worth tuning an e-commerce platform’s category system rather than using a platform off the shelf.
Very few e-commerce platforms set product categories correctly by default, putting one at risk of under-indexation.
5. Wikipedia citations are an easy and valuable source of links.
Many SEOs are making a mistake of not yet building quality backlinks from Wikipedia, which in fact is quite feasible.
