Little City Announces Grand Opening of the Duffey Family Children’s Village
Palatine, IL (PRWEB) November 03, 2014 -- A vital and vibrant community, the New Little City is growing in its mission to enrich the lives of children and adults with disabilities. The Duffey Family Children’s Village will open on Wednesday, November 5th with a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception. Two of six planned, state-of-the-art, eight-bedroom residences will become home to 16 children.
Funded by the generosity of the John M. and Becky Duffey family, Vincent and Patricia Foglia of the Foglia Family Foundation, the Larry Rudis Special Needs Trust, as well as hundreds of dedicated donors, the homes will include features specifically designed for children with moderate to profound autism.
Innovative sensory rooms will serve high stimulus functions such as art, music, crafts and psychomotor activities, while at other times accommodate low stimulus activities like speech therapy and one-on-one instruction. The new homes include a visiting room to provide a quiet place for parents to visit with their children.
The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m.; the Reception and Open House will be at 2:00 at “Larry’s Home,” named in memory of Larry Rudis, who was a long-time resident of Little City, 1580 Little City Circle at Little City, 1760 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine, IL 60067.
