Livermore Performing Arts Center Hosts Amjad Ali Khan & Sons
Livermore, CA (PRWEB) March 19, 2014 -- Amjad Ali Khan, the world’s acknowledged master of the sarod, is coming to the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center’s Bankhead Theater at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20.
A prolific composer of ragas, or traditional melodies, Khan’s exquisite music crosses cultural barriers, seamlessly blending Indian traditions with other musical influences. He is known for his expertise on the sarod, a small string instrument known for the resonant and nearly vocal qualities it brings to Indian classical music.
Khan, a sixth-generation sarod virtuoso, is the winner of numerous international accolades. He now performs worldwide with his sons Amaan and Ayaad, providing music lovers a glorious opportunity to experience a living tradition.
The Lincoln Journal Star says Khan is “one of India’s foremost ambassadors to the rest of the world. Famous for his elegant style and technique, he has breathed a new life into an ancient form.”
Tickets for the March 20 show are available for $36, $45 or $55 as well as $15 for students. The Bankhead Theater ticket office is open from 12-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday as well as from 3-6 p.m. Saturday or 30 minutes after curtain time.
