Livermore, CA (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- Modern master of the slide guitar Roy Rogers, and his band The Delta Rhythm Kings, will provide an electrifying start to the annual Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center New Year’s Eve Celebration at the Bankhead Theater. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. Dec. 31 and will include a complimentary champagne and dessert reception in the Bankhead Theater lobby immediately following the performance. Over the past five years, LVPAC’s combination of world-class music with a sumptuous post-show reception has become a local New Year’s Eve tradition, a festive way for attendees to get ready for the rest of their evening leading up to the official turn of the calendar. For those interested in making the celebration complete, LVPAC has collaborated with local businesses to offer a special comprehensive “Sparkling New Year’s Eve Package” for two.
This package includes a pair of tickets to the performance and post-show reception, preceded by a gourmet four-course dinner at Sanctuary Ultra Lounge across the street from the theater. Dinner includes a choice of appetizer, salad, entrée and dessert, as well as a bottle of Concannon Vineyard merlot or sauvignon blanc, or two cocktails from Sanctuary’s extensive list of specialty cocktails. Called “one of the rare guitar heroes who values feeling over flash” by Rolling Stone magazine, Roy Rogers has thrilled audiences worldwide with his powerful live performances and eclectic mix of modern blues, traditional Americana and roots music. A California native, Rogers grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and started playing guitar at age 12. Although introduced to a wealth of musical styles, he developed a particular passion for the Delta Blues of Robert Johnson. In the 1980s, Rogers toured with John Lee Hooker’s Coast to Coast Blues Band before launching his own band, the Delta Rhythm Kings.
Rogers continually stretches the boundaries of the slide guitar, finding his own distinctive bridge between the traditional sounds of the Mississippi Delta and modern day rock and roll. With eight solo recordings and numerous collaborative albums, he has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and holds six Grammy credits for his work with John Lee Hooker and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. Rogers has been invited to appear at festivals around the world, and his music has been featured in numerous film and television soundtracks.
“New Year’s Eve with Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings” will bring to a close a festive holiday season at the Bankhead Theater that has included Doo Wop holiday music, seasonal songs and love ballads from the WWII era, as well as exhilarating dance from classical ballet to Mexican folklorico.
Leading off the Bankhead Theater’s 2014 performances will be the exquisite three-part harmonies of the Wailin’ Jennys, whose beguiling mix of Americana, pop and traditional folk styles and engaging stage presence have won them fans across multiple genres. They will appear for a single performance Jan. 11 at 8 p.m.
