LiveToBeSober.org's "Fighting Addiction Together" Conference Finds Inspiration with Bishop William Murphy
Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) July 23, 2015 -- In the Hall of Legends at Detroit’s Ford Field, LiveToBeSober.org hosted the “Fighting Addiction Together” conference attended by around 100 guests, including locally and nationally recognized pastors, minister and bishops, members of law enforcement and civic leaders, among others. The purpose behind the informative luncheon was to raise awareness about the state of addiction in today’s society and to inform people about the options that they have in treatment programs and recovery centers in regards to the recent changes in legislation concerning the health care system in the US.
“Our goal is to beat this thing we call addiction,” commented Live To Be Sober affiliate Per Wickstrom. “Only by standing together in unity can we hope to become a predominantly drug-free society. The ‘Fighting Addiction Together’ conference is just one small part of educating people on the dangers of substance abuse and what they can do to help those in need.”
Fighting Addiction Together Luncheon
Among the many guest speakers at the “Fighting Addiction Together” luncheon was Bishop William Murphy, pastor of the New Mount Moriah International Church of Pontiac, MI and member of the Executive Council and Bishop of Intercessory Prayer of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International. He is known for his work in Intercessory prayer sessions, as well as local, regional, and national prayer workshops and conferences. He offered words of guidance to the audience in using their influence in the community to provide help where it is needed. “We must realize that we are gifted because of the opportunity that we have to make a difference,” Bishop Murphy said. “Today, there are people who are plagued by the issue of drugs. They are struggling. If you never use your grace to help, they may never have what they need to get out.” A video of his speech is available on the LiveToBeSober.org YouTube channel.
Other guest speakers included Detroit Police Assistant Chief of Police Steve Dolunt, Dr. James Lawrence Jr., and two people who had overcome their own addictions through the help of a recovery facility. In addition to the complimentary luncheon, guests received gift bags with educational brochures and DVDs, Parent-Child promissory notes regarding abstinence from substance abuse, home drug tests and other tools that are helpful in giving guidance to those who may be struggling with addiction. A raffle for executive suite seats for a Detroit Lions home game was also held.
