Livingston, Dimarzio and Baptista, LLP Secures Settlement in New Jersey Prison Workers' Compensation Case
Nutley, NJ (PRWEB) November 21, 2013 -- The widow of Officer Gregory Bucci was awarded nearly $600,000 in a settlement from the State of New Jersey (New Jersey Department of Labor – Division of Workers Compensation
Jersey City District Office Claim Petition Number: 2011-10458). Officer Bucci was an employee of the former Rahway State Prison from 1988 until 2000. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in July 2010, which his widow believed was directly related to his exposure to asbestos while working at the prison. Evidence showed asbestos was present in the tunnels under the grounds of the prison during Officer Bucci’s time of employment.
Mrs. Bucci was represented by the legal team of Livingston, DiMarzio, and Baptista, LLP at The Workplace Lawyers. The settlement was based on a calculation of $417 per week for the expected remainder of her life, assumed to be 24.5 years, so long as she does not remarry. District Attorney General Kathy O’Brien represented the State of New Jersey. The Order Approving Settlement was issued by the Honorable Kenneth Campen.
There are numerous buildings throughout the city of Rahway identified as harboring asbestos materials. Some of these buildings are undergoing or have undergone historic restoration, increasing the risk of asbestos exposure. It is believed that people working in older buildings in Rahway have been exposed to asbestos at some point during their careers.
