LMU Carter and Moyers School of Education Earns CACREP Accreditation
Harrogate, Tennessee (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- Two Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Carter and Moyers School of Education programs have received Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accreditation.
“CACREP accreditation approval is a tribute to our quality program faculty and community partners. Also, such national accreditation offers a lifetime benefit for all program graduates,” said Carter and Moyers School of Education Dean J. Michael Clyburn. “LMU's counseling programs have now been moved to an elite group of academic providers - a benefit for the Appalachian region.”
LMU’s Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and M.Ed. in School Counseling programs were accredited for an eight-year period, running through October 31, 2021.The notification followed the CACREP Board of Directors meeting July 11-13, 2013. The accreditation decisions were based on the Board’s extensive review of the self-study documents, the visiting team’s report and the University’s response to the visiting team’s report.
“Programs receiving accreditation for an eight-year period deserve to be commended for the work they completed throughout the accreditation process. This is indeed a worthy achievement,” CACREP President and CEO Carol Bobby said in the notification letter.
Both accredited programs are available at the LMU main campus in Harrogate, Tenn., and the LMU-Cedar Bluff extended learning site in Knoxville, Tenn.
The University is awaiting a final report from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), which is also reviewing the LMU education programs for accreditation. NCATE, like CACREP, is the national standard in excellence in teacher preparation.
