LMU's Caylor School of Nursing to Offer Doctor of Nursing Practice
Harrogate, Tennessee (PRWEB) January 15, 2015 -- Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) Caylor School of Nursing (CSON) plans to offer a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program beginning May 2015. The new DNP program will be offered online and meets the standards for national nursing organizations and their recommendations, competences and guidelines for DNP programs.
“The Caylor School of Nursing is thrilled to offer the Doctor of Nursing Practice program,” said Dr. Mary Anne Modrcin, dean of the Caylor School of Nursing. “This endeavor meets the changing demands of innovative health care and will prepare graduates to fully implement emerging science and become visionary leaders in the nursing field.”
The post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice, with cognates in advance practice nursing or administration prepares graduates to demonstrate advanced competencies in areas including advanced clinical skills, clinical prevention and population health, organizational and systems leadership, clinical policy, inter-professional collaboration, population outcomes and translational research.
With the growing needs of expertise in health care, the need for DNP programs continues to gain support nationwide. A report released by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing on October 28, 2014, revealed universal agreement among nurse educators about the value of the DNP degree in preparing individuals for advanced nursing practice.
2014 marked the 40th anniversary of the Caylor School of Nursing at LMU. Nursing continues to be the largest undergraduate program at LMU, and with new programs and concentrations like the DNP, enrollment in the CSON has increased exponentially over the last few years. CSON offers a variety of degree options in addition to the DNP program to meet nurses’ career goals including the Associate of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Master of Science in Nursing degrees.
