Local Dance Team Wins World Championship Title
Denver, CO (PRWEB) April 08, 2016 -- The Premiere Irish Dance School of Colorado is celebrating a World championship win. Celtic Steps School of Irish Dance brought home the trophy from the World Irish Dancing Championships held last month in Glasgow, Scotland. “We are so proud of our students for their hard work and dedication. Our dancers won the World Championship Title for the Junior Figure Choreography Dance category,” says Shaun Casey, owner of Celtic Steps School of Irish Dance. The team consisted of 16 dancers from the Colorado Springs and Denver area ranging in age from 13-years-old to 16-years-old.
Thirty-five dancers from Celtic Steps School of Irish Dance performed at the World Championship event. “ We had several teams and soloists competing against thousands of dancers from across the globe. It’s truly quite an honor to bring home the win,” explains Casey.
Celtic Steps School of Irish Dance was founded in 2006 by veteran Irish dance professionals, Shaun Casey born and raised in Lakewood, Colorado and Aisling Toal Casey of Belfast, Ireland. They met while touring as leads in Michael Flatley’s “Lord of the Dance” International touring production and have now built one of the largest schools in the United States. Celtic Steps has over 400 students and 6 studio locations throughout the Denver area and in Sioux Falls, SD.
They specialize in Traditional Irish Solo and Ceili Dancing. Irish step dancing combines the entrancing rhythms of traditional Celtic music with the grace and energy of dance. Students work to achieve the fundamentals of timing, body positioning, and footwork as they learn the basic steps, then progress to learn beginner reel, light jig, and slip jig steps.
Over the years the school has won titles all over the world including Scotland, London, and Montreal. Last November they earned two regional champion solo titles and three figure team titles. “Capturing the World Championship title means so much to our dancers. Not only is it a testament to their amazing dance skills, but it shows a strength in their teams skills, confidence, and dedication to their art,” adds Casey.
Celtic Steps dancers are now practicing for Nationals, which will be held in Orlando, Florida in July.
