Local Dentist to Host Two Educational Seminars on Sleep Apnea and TMJ on January 28th
Arlington, TX (PRWEB) January 15, 2016 -- Koala Center For Sleep Disorders has made it their mission to help America get a better quality sleep. Their dentists will use this seminar to educate on the dangers of Sleep Apnea and TMJ and what can be done to alleviate the symptoms in a non-invasive manner.
Everyone in the world sleeps, but not everyone in the world sleeps well. A disturbance in sleep can occur for any number of reasons. Some can be minor and annoying, such as noisy neighbors, others can be more serious and uncontrollable. Sleep Apnea fits into the second category.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea is characterized by complete airway obstruction. It is often found, but not limited to, older, overweight men and affects significant percentages of women and children, as well. The serious and life-threatening problems start when sleepers begin experiencing apneas, where breathing stops, and hypopneas, where breathing is shallow due to an obstruction. Breathing is usually blocked in the back of the throat because the tongue and muscles relax during sleep, the lower jaw falls back toward the throat, and the airway becomes blocked.
Approximately 35 million people in the United States suffer from TMJ problems. While both men and women experience TMJ disorders, the majority of those seeking treatment are women in their 20’s and 30’s. Many believe stress or a busy lifestyle is to blame, but do not realize that these symptoms are often related to their jaw muscles and their jaw joint known as the temporomandibular joint or TMJ. A person's bite can be a factor in many types of pain or functional problems because of the inter-relationship of the overall muscle and skeletal system.
Both of these conditions and more will be covered at free seminars hosted by Koala Center For Sleep Disorders on January 28th at the Courtyard by Marriott Arlington South, 711 Highlander Blvd, Arlington, Texas 76015. There are presentations scheduled for 2:00 PM, and 7:00 PM. For any additional information or to reserve a seat, call 817-591-7800
