Local Nonprofit Prepares to Assist Families in Canton and Uniontown During Annual Event
CANTON, Ohio (PRWEB) December 08, 2015 -- For the fifth year in a row, Current of Ohio is hosting its Affordable Christmas event, empowering approximately 130 families in the community. The first event will take place Saturday, Dec. 12, in Canton from 11a.m. – 2 p.m. at The Martin Center located at 1253 3rd St. S.E. On Sunday, Dec. 13, organizers head to Uniontown at the RiverTree Christian Church’s Lake Campus located at 2201 Lake Center Street N.W. from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Affordable Christmas is a holiday shopping event which provides lower-income, working-class families the chance to purchase new gifts for their children at one-tenth of the original cost. Families are invited to attend through partnering community organizations.
“I get excited just thinking about what this event brings to struggling families,” said Current of Ohio Director, Corey Easterday. “It is truly unique, because parents use their own money to buy presents for their children, helping them hold on to their dignity. Sometimes, that can be more significant than the gifts themselves.”
Affordable Christmas toys and gifts for children, 16 years of age and younger, are being accepted at Deli Ohio, Best Bib, & Tucker, Hartville Collectibles, LoveCanton, First Friends Church, First Christian Church and The Martin Center. Items requested for donation include bicycles, sports toys and equipment, skateboards, scooters, video games, movies, dolls, action figures, personal care items, arts and crafts kits and more.
Additional sponsors providing support for Affordable Christmas include: RiverTree Lake, RiverTree Canal Fulton, First Friends Church, First Christian Church, Fish Food Pantry, Lake Local Schools, The Martin Center, Stark County Family Engagement Council, MerchLine, LoveCanton Church, Lighthouse Ministries, Help Me Grow, Kahiniwalla, Best Bib & Tucker Hartville Collectibles and Deli Ohio. To date, Affordable Christmas has helped more than 600 children have a special holiday season.
Organizers are in need of 200 volunteers for both events. If you are interested in assisting in Canton, please visit http://www.christmasbycurrent.org/volunteer-in-canton.
