Local Organization, Current Initiatives, Preparing to Serve Nearly 200 Families in the Tampa Bay Area for Holidays

TAMPA, Fla. (PRWEB) December 09, 2015 -- Local nonprofit, Current Initiatives, is set to host its annual Affordable Christmas events on the following dates and locations:

  • Saturday, Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Crossover Church, located at 1235 E. Fowler Ave.,
  • Sunday, Dec. 13 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at First Assembly of God Clearwater, located at 1739 S. Martin Luther King Jr Ave. AND
  • Tuesday, Dec. 15 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Sulphur Springs campus of Exciting Idlewild Baptist Church located at 8209 N. 19th St.

Lower income families will have the opportunity to buy new presents for their children, at one-tenth of the original retail cost, creating a special Christmas for many. This is the first time Current is hosting three Affordable Christmas events this year.

“This event is truly what the Christmas spirit is all about, reaching out to those in need,” said Current Initiatives President, Jason Sowell. “Every child should have new toys at Christmas. Creating an environment for their parents to provide them is even better. This is not a handout, but a time of empowerment and maintaining dignity for families.”

Gifts for children 14 years old and younger for Affordable Christmas are being collected at Murray Motive in Oldsmar, Independent Bar & Cafe in Seminole Heights, Watermark Church in Seminole Heights, Buddy Brew Coffee and Crossover Church in Tampa.

Requested donation items include new or unused bicycles, sports toys and equipment, skateboards, scooters, video games, movies, dolls, action figures, arts and crafts and more. To see the full list of items, please visit http://www.christmasbycurrent.org.

Participating families must be considered low-income and invited or referred by members of Crossover Church, Positive Spin or Urban Young Life organizations. If you would like to refer a family, you may contact one of the listed Current Initiatives partners.

Sponsors providing monetary support for Affordable Christmas include Crossover Church, Positive Spin, Urban Young Life, Watermark Church, The Collective Genius, Vistra Communications, Merchline, Skatepark of Tampa, Murray Motive, Florida Blue, Idlewild Baptist Church and Buddy Brew Coffee. However, Current is still in need of sponsors, donations and volunteers.
